The article examines the built environment around a Viking Age/medieval torp (a secondary,outlying settlement), Sotarp, located on the north slope of Skrea Backe. The aim is to “populate” the settlement by describing the inhabitants of the buildings, their patterns of movement, material culture, and the surrounding landscape. This takes place within the framework of a periodization of the internal development of the settlement, which proceeds from the results of the final excavation in 1999.
